Picton

Picton is a somewhat crowded but well sheltered harbour that is the home of our reciprocal club, the Prince Edward Yacht Club. Dockage for CFBKYC members is $20 for the first night with the second night free. Washrooms and showers are at dockside and the club is fully air conditioned. They serve cool draft. Ice is available on the dock.

Once you have passed Glenora, the ESSROC plant dominates the skyline on the western shore. Picton's largest employer, ESSROC is the largest cement plant in Canada. You should also be on the watch for the large freighter servicing the ESSROC plant - in the narrow waters of the Adolphus Reach, passing it can be exciting. The first time approach to Picton involves careful chart reading to locate Chimney Point, which must be rounded before you can see the town. Have your lines and fenders ready before you round the point, because the yacht club is suddenly right THERE on the right.

Space is often limited, so you should call ahead. The bartender will assign you dock space on the visitors' dock upon arrival. Alternate but more expensive space is available at the adjacent town docks, which are also managed by PEYC.

On calm nights, nearby Halowell Cove is a good alternative anchorage.

Once settled in, you can explore the town which is a ten minute walk away. Loyalist roots are evident everywhere, and the architecture of the older fine homes is wonderful. There is a public library with internet connection on the main street as well as a Home Hardware and a supermarket. CJ's Pizza is fabulous and they deliver to PEYC.
